When the first Nintendo console hit the market back in the 1980's, people were amazed at the ability to play these kinds of video games in their home. Yes, the controllers only had four buttons, and yes, the graphics that it features in the games were two dimensional, but it represented a giant leap forward in video gaming capabilities.
After the original Nintendo system made its splash, every other major electronics manufacturer in the world was scrambling to catch up, and to offer something that would be at least half as fun. Then after one or two more consoles were released, Nintendo kind of disappeared off the gaming scene for a few years. However, now, with the release of the Nintendo Wii, it's safe to say that they are back and here to stay.
The brilliance of the Nintendo Wii is that it didn't try to compete directly with the other popular video game playing systems that were and are currently on the market. Instead, the designers of the Nintendo Wii took the console in a completely different direction, and demonstrated their amazing ability to make video games even more fun and interactive. Now, instead of leaving you completely motionless as you play, the Nintendo Wii allows you to physically move around to achieve game play.
Although the Nintendo Wii does have the reputation of only being able to accept kids' games, you will have to admit that some of the games that they've come out with so far are fun for kids of all ages. There are sports and music games that are so sensitive to human movement; the remote shaped controller starts to feel like an extension of your own limbs. There are puzzle games and adventure games that allow you to exist in your fantasy world and explore universes that are three dimensional, and maybe more.
If you are interested in a different kind of gaming console than you should definitely consider the Nintendo Wii. Although it can't play blue ray discs, it can connect to the internet directly to get news, weather information and even download games from Nintendo's online store. This means that you can change the games that you're able to play on the Nintendo Wii at a moment's notice! You can even have a lot of fun creating your own character, called a Mii.
