After all - you are the one who will ultimately be either enormously happy or enormously discontent with your surgery. That's why you should be the one to assure that you are informed about both the pros and cons associated with breast augmentation.
All Surgeries Could Have Complications
As with any surgery, there are some things that could become eventual complications. The important thing to note, however, is that all complications can be adjusted or fixed. The surgeon you choose will make all of the difference in your outcome, and his or her experience in performing the procedure will mean better results and fewer complications from the onset.
So Just What is Capsular Contracture?
One common concern that many patients ask about is capsular contracture. According to the data, this complication only occurs in approximately 20% of patients receiving breast augmentation surgery. Additionally, of this 20%, not all who deal with capsular contracture deal with it in severity. Some women only experience a mild form of it, especially if caught early. This is why it is important to know the warning signs to be looking for after your breast augmentation procedure.
Capsular contracture is a capsule of hardened scar tissue that surrounds the implant on the outside of it. The resulting compression and distortion of the implant can sometimes cause discomfort to the patient, although in many cases, it is not accompanied by pain or discomfort. Some believe that the resulting pain is the result of nerves being trapped and/or interference with muscle motion.
What Can I Do To Avoid It?
If you are still concerned about the occurrence rate of capsular contracture, evidence suggests that texturized, saline-filled implants placed under the muscle reduce the rate of occurrence of capsular contracture. Although saline-filled implants do not feel as natural as silicone-filled implants, many women feel that the additional health benefits of saline outweighs the need for a more natural feel and appearance. Again, as with any surgery, weighing the pros and cons is key in making the right choices for your own body.
